1997 Ford F350 7.3L died going down the road now it won't start

My truck died going down the road today and now it won't start. No lights came on. I looked at all the fuses and discovered that the IDM fuse was blown. I replaced that but it still won't start. I have checked all fuses and the valve on the fuel filter, none of the fuses are blown and diesel is coming out of the valve when you press it. There is no air in the system. It will crank but not start. Any ideas. Could it be the camshaft/crankshaft position sensor or something else?

By "valve on the fuel filter" do you mean the yellow tab? If so that is the fuel bowl drain. I expect if you've drained the fuel a few times it still may not start. Easy checks: Open the fuel bowl and check to see that you have a clean fuel filter, look in the little hole inside the bowl towards the driver's side and make sure that screen is clean, top off fuel bowl with diesel and reinstall filter slowly, check codes. You can buy a new CPS to try. It can cause no starts. If the IDM fuse was blown then something may have caused that. You can pull the IDM and shake it to see if water is inside. A little more info would help too. You have a chip? Enough oil?

Completely stock 209,000 miles. Never had any problems till today. I was talking about the bleeder valve on the drivers side of the bowl. It has plenty of oil. I went ahead and replaced the CPS and it still won't start.

Does the tach move when you crank it? If it does the CPS is good. Do you get white smoke when you crank it? If you do, then you're getting fuel. Are you sure fuse 22 under the hood is good? The fuel bowl heater can short out and blow it. Disconnecting the middle electrical plug from the drivers side of the fuel bowl will disconnect the heater (you don't need it) and prevent you from blowing more fuses, if that's the cause.

Did it just die like you turned off the key or sputter and die like it's running out of fuel

I've never heard of the IDM fuse blowing, not that it can't happen.
It's usually the PCM fuse #22.

Does the WST (wait to start) light come on when key is first turned on?

Ok after further investigation I have discovered that the wire to the fuel bowl heater is broke. I heard somewhere that this could blow the IDM fuse. Any body heard of this? And how do I replace the heater?

Fuel bowl heater element short or connecting wire short causes fuse #22 to blow killing the PCM, not the IDM, see post #8 above. Is your question it still does not start or just how to fix the fuel bowl heater?

How do you replace the heater? And will it start if you just unplug it? If that is the problem.

Once again .. does the WTS light come on when you first turn the key on?

Don't worry about the heater as it does little to nothing. I thought you said you found a broke wire on the heater connection. Anyway, yes you can unplug the heater wire but if fuse #22 (under hood) fuse box is blown you need to replace it also.
