Time for new brakes?

If you really want to be cheap and have time on your hands...
A drill press, about 2 hours per rotor...
IMHO, the best bang for the buck is cyro treated rotors.
Cryogenic Processing of Brake
Be sure you get a set that is really treated, not passed through a tank of liquid nitrogen like Groucho Marx's duck soup.
Much bigger improvement than slotting and drilling.
- slotting helps pads shed glaze / vent gases
- drilling does same, and lighten weight.
But cyro treating simply make them work better and last longer.
Pads?
That is almost a personal preference once you get to medium priced to premium grades.
Decide on what style you want (e.g. for hard braking, around town... etc.) and then select a pad that hopefully, wears your rotors out at a moderate rate so you chuck both together.
Some pads are real hard on rotors, and others are not but don't last.
The optimum pad / rotor set almost have to be matched by experts who know the application / use and can select from the sets available.
FYI, I buy the cheapest pads ($30) and rotors ($60) because I do not have a demanding application.
Now... for ball bearings.. that is a different story... get only the most trusted brand names... and verify it is not a cheap knock off or fake.

Hey BADFORD, I was in Elkhart two weeks ago.
I did the Cryo treated and slotted rotors on my 02, spent 150 EACH on them. I did HAWK HD brake pads, but some use HAWK LTS.
I didn't think the rotors were excellent, I guess the pads were okay. I only had it for about 5000 miles before I sold the truck.
I would opt for the NAPA super duty (or heavy duty) whatever it is but it's NAPA's best one they have, but still go with the HAWK pads.

Brake Performance
No disrepsect.........but don't drill your own rotors that is silly
I bought powerslot cryos from tirerack and the rears (slotted) from them. Reasonable prices

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PWR-AR-8580XR/ these with Hawk LTS pads looks like a deal.

I bought the rears because I wanted cryo for the front since that is where most of the warping/braking occurs. I am happy with the rears I bought from brakeperformance.com
I bought the HAWK SD pads.
The most important thing about brakes is doing them correctly and lubing the proper points with the proper stuff. PM if you'd like me to explain
The best price on HAWK pads I found was on autoanything.com

Well after doing some home work I found out that the drilled rotors are not the way to go for trucks. The drilled holes tend to crack.... So I got the Powerstop cryo slotted rotor and the Hawk LTS pads. Summit had the best prices and from a company that has been around for a long time, in case I have any issues.
