Please list your location and truck

**********Just wanted to bump to the top again because I've noticed a number of new members posting without locations listed. I don't want to be a nag but it really helps to have your location listed especially when asking about parts availability or a value of a vehicle.************

On every site I visit, including FTE, many members don't list their location or vehicle they're working on. Many times some one will post about needing a specific part without mentioning what year truck they're working on, it makes it hard to reply with an helpful answer. The manifold for a '48 flathead six is completely different than a manifold gasket for a '56 OHV V8, if you don't tell us we can't help. It really helps to have the vehicle listed in your signature.

Also, list your location, we don't need to know your street address just your general location. I have SE WI for my location because I feel it saves time than to list Germantown because no one knows where Germantown is located in WI and there are actually two Germantowns in WI, the other one is on the other side of the state. If we know where you're located there might be someone close by that can help out with either locating parts or even coming over to lend a hand. I feel more willing to help some one if I see they're close by. I also know local establishments that can supply parts that you might not know about.

You can enter all this information by going to your control panel, or "CP" toward the upper left hand site of any of pages on this site. You had to fill out the forms to get on the site just go back to where you did this and fish around a bit, you'll find all the place you need to insert this information.

I hadn't noticed that's how you've listed your location Bob. I've done the same thing. There are two Rochesters in Illinois. The other is in the southern tip of the state. At least having the zip code in my user name gives the location. Stu

Good thread Bob!

Sometimes folks are willing to help but they do things in a certain way that the asking person may not quite understand. And they may ask for that info because they've helped someone out with the same problem before and learned a good way to do it.

So while it's not the intention to pry, it really does help if the basics are known.

Not that it matters for most out here, but you need 25 initial posts before they allow a signature line

Start pumping out questions and answers.

You can still list your location in the upper right hand corner.

Excellent reminder! Also if you don't have the stock engine, don't assume that we all remember that you put a '59 Studebaker engine in it.

Kid, your math needs work... (25 - 9 = 1 ?)

Ross, I think he meant "1 more post" toward 25. Don't give him a hard time, we need all the new blood in this old hobby we can get.

Wasn't sure, just "Kidding" anyway!

It strikes me as really dumb to prevent newbies from Searching and adding such info; they have more need of searching than us old farts.

I agree completely! What ends up happening in that case is that puts the burden on the more experienced members to fill that knowledge gap until post 25.

I wonder if the powers that be appreciate the fact that new members probably wouldn't stick around out of frustration if the rest of the membership didn't carry that ball and help the new folks out who can't search either!

(I'm being facetious - I know the answer already)

I assume the admins figure they don't want to waste the band width or storage space on people that might only make a few posts and never come back. I've seen quite a few people that have posted less than 5 times and never come back.

Ya that's mostly the people wanting to build Poodle trucks! and getting lambasted for it

Just added my trucks to the signature; Thanks Bob,

Oh ya my location is in there too, can someone come over tomorrow morning and help me get a froze up rear drum off the F-5 so I can roll it off the borrowed trailer??
Thanks, coffee and breakfast will be on me.

Josh

I know by reading a lot of comments here , the ' H.A.M.B. ' site is looked down on for a number of reasons I won't get in to here. But I found out it is more user friendly as far as making things work than any other forums I have been on. Posting pictures is fast and simple and it was that way for me from the start without having to pay in to it. Now you do have to learn to ignore a lot of trash talk there. When it comes to ford trucks and you can go to sleep on some of the other ford forums waiting for something new to come up. I like the location thing , at least the state , country , ect. Just my $.02 worth. JIM
