I've also got the same engine in one of my trucks. My 97 S/C 4x4 has 195,000 and still runs as smooth as new. Only problems were cracked exhaust manifold at 70,000 and alternator at 120,000 and radiator at 155,000. Also PS pump at 100,000. I'd call that trouble free. My brother in law bought my 95 F350 when I bought the 97 and he has 260,000, and roughly the same maintenance items.

That is great to hear.... I was surprised at how well this motor ran. Here's another question... how about trannys? I know the E4OD is a very problematic tranny. My truck shifts fairly firm... but it shifts, and then feels like it shifts again about 1 second later. It doesnt' do it all the time, but does do it frequently. It doesn't feel like driveline play (U-joints, etc). Also, it will occasionaly drop into gear fairly hard.... is this normal?

the second shift is the lockup style torque converter. It is supposed to do that . The transmissions are ok. My 97 fried on at 35,000 miles but other than that one theyve been ok. They have typically had about a 125,000 mile lifespan on my trucks, I change the fluid every 15,000 miles. Prior to 95 I had the C6 three speed which I still think are the best there is, and the mileage didn't differ a whole lot from the E40d. Just keep the fluid cool and clean.

This was my response to an earlier post looking for hp & tq numbers for an 89 460
this info may help
{Using stock(i thiink) cam specs (.432/.475 lift @.050-193/206 dur.)
and the stock E7TE heads airflow specs from http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com
I got 265hp @ 3500 rpm & 433 ft. lbs. @ 2500 rpm
my 1988 ford shop manual list 230hp.
So I think the desk top dyno is a little optimistic}
