98 2.3l Timing belt
My buddy has a 98 Ranger with the 2.3l
He called me up and told me his truck died. I had him pull the cover and check the timing belt, sure enough it broke.
Is this an interference motor?
And if not is there any tricks I should know about before I start working on it this Saturday?

you need to make sure the cam sensor on the oil pump is lined up. Also this is a non interferance motor, so no worrys there. There isn't really a mark on the crank persay, but you need to make sure the cam is lined up with its mark. Should be a triangle with three lines or two. Anyways the triangle or pointer, goes in the middle of the other mark. Now the tensioner is a pain is the u know what. They have a special too, but I used a snapon pry bar. Its best to put it on and pry it past where it needs to be for the belt to slip on, and then tighten the bolts down, so it stays put, and then loosen them after the belts on to apply tension. I can give you some real good links to this if you have more questions.
