A 50 F4 project truck

This followed me home today. Flat 6, the cab floor is awesome for a change. This might be the rig for plowing snow. If I can get it running right away, sheet metal can wait until next year.

That snow is getting pretty darn close!. We have snow on the mountains here this weekend and if it means anything it'll be flying down here real quick. Awesome trucks you have there. Happy wrenchin'.......

If that's a price on the window I'd say you did ok for yourself.

One question though. What size are the wheels and tires? That left front looks pretty small. The smallest I've seen that will clear the front drums are 17" Budds like I use on my trucks. That left front looks smaller than the rears which I assume are the 18"ers that were the dually option. All the wheels/tires on your F-4 are obviously shorter than the 20s on the "big brother". Hope none are the widowmaker variety. Stu

The wheels are 17 or 18 and all widow makers. I'll scrap them. Is there any reason I can't use 20's on this truck? The drums are the same size, the bolt pattern is the same. Since I've got an extra set of 20's I'm hoping to go that way.

Ross, the sickness is much worse. This makes 5. 48 F1, 48 F6, 50 F4, 52 F2 and a 52 F6

The guy really wanted to get rid of it - I've been watching it since last fall when the price was 1500. I got it for $700 - which is why I couldn't pass it up. Had to haul it all of 15 miles.

If one or both fronts are 17s, they won't be widowmakers. I've never come across a 17" Budd with the 5 x 8" pattern that was a widowmaker. They were all lock rings. If the backs are 18s they are probably widowmakers, but lock ring style was also available. Before scrapping any of them please see if they are lock ring style, and if so do me a private message with part numbers if you can find them. Especially on the 17s. If the 17s are my 59340 part number, and in good shape, I'll for sure want them. Part numbers are on the back (concave) side rim lip opposite the valve stem.

Your 20s will fit the truck fine. Like you said, same drums, fenders, etc. Stu

No such luck Stu, I just checked and they're all 18" and definitely wm's. I think they look smaller in the pics cause the tires are flat. If they were 17's I'd save 'em for you.

Well, heck. Thanks for looking. That left front sure does look shorter than the rest. Stu

The sheetmetal has its fair share of dings. I was looking for a cab to swap with the F6 cause the door posts and middle cab corners are shot on that one, but the F4 is so complete I think I'll change my plans and rebuild it.

Nice grab, Tim! A flatbed and a load of logs strapped on should push some snow. ( I need a trailer like that!)

Funny story on the trailer. I bought it to haul the F6 home from ND. I owned it for almost a month. My neighbor who owns a logging company was looking at similar trialers to haul a small dozer or large backhoe. I bought it with the intention of using it to transport his backhoe for my own projects. (He's a great guy!!) When he heard what I paid for it, he insisted on buying it and gave me free use of it anytime I need it. I couldn't think of a down side so I took him up on his offer.

Well, if he's willing to do that, why not swing by I-Falls.

At some point this is the type of trailer I would like to get, too. Not sure if the F6 will pull it or not, though.
