2008 F250 with 2011 F250 Wheels - TPMS

I have 2008 F250 6.4 that originally came with 18" wheels. I was able to purchase set of new take off 2011 20" wheels and have them installed. I am getting a 'tire pressure monitor fault' error message. All was working fine with the 18"s.

I am pretty sure the 2008 wheels had the banned TPMS installed - they were completely stock and never taken off. The 2011 have the value stem TPMS installed.

Does anyone know if the 2011 TPMS are compatible with a 2008 F250? What are my choices on this one?

Thanks,

I replaced my stock 18"s with Factory 20"s and had the same issue. The dealer had to program the sensors to the truck. When you change wheels/tires, they have to be reprogrammed. I changed my wheels out on my car and followed the instructions in the owners manuel. It takes about 2-3 minutes to due all 4 wheels.

If your 08 had the TPMS system the new wheels should be able to be programmed to the truck. Check your owners manuel to see if there are instructions.

I'm not 100% sure.

They should be able to reprogram. I had to have mine done once before, You may be able to do it at a local tire shop.

thanks for the feedback - sounds like the 2011 value stem senors should be compatible with the 2008 F250 that originally was calibrated with the banned sensors. will run by the local F dealer for a recalibration. I did not have luck using the steps in the 2008 F250 owners manual.

I have a 2011 F250 with 20" rims and I cannot stand the TPMS feature. Does anyone know how to turn it off or defeat it? It is really annoying.

Unfortunately there is no way to defeat or turn off the tpms feature (at least not at this time). What issues are you having with it?

2008 F250 with 2011 F250 Wheels - TPMS

Thanks for your reply.

I have the 2011 20" Wheels and Tires installed on the 2008 F250 but could never get the 2008 truck to recognize any of the 2011 TPMS. Error message 'Tire Pressure Monitor Fault'. The dealer and I messed around with trying to retrain but no luck. My solution was to buy a set of OEM 2008-2010 Banneded sensors and have those installed. All is working fine now...just was not a simple tire wheels swap like I had planned.

SO, 2008-2010 f250 trucks will need the banned sensors if you want to dash light to go out.

2011 F250 changed to the value stem TPMS. Much better and wish the 2008 F250 could be trained to recognize, but myself and dealer had no luck.

I want to lower the pressure in my tires so they don't ride so rough. I am not really concerned about fuel as much as comfort since I spend a great deal of time in my truck. How can I lower the tire pressure but tell my truck that the pressure is okay.

If it is within Ford's limits (20% below what is on your door jam), then you won't have a problem with the light coming on. Otherwise, you will have to have the computer reset for a lower threshold pressure at a Ford dealer.

I have 2011 f250 that displays tire fault warning when I have my 5th wheel attached and it is a hot day. It does not go to fault when the truck has no load. It also does not come on when the weather is cool.

This just began a year after receiving the truck without adding any new equipment.

When the trouble warning comes on I can shut it off using the ok button but it comes back on in a short time.

Does anyone have the same trouble and if so can it be corrected?

I dont know if it would work on a superduty as im not planning to swap wheels so i havent looked into it. But on mustangs you can put the sensors in a pipe. Pressurize to xxpsi and done with pms forever

I'm pretty sure the sensors need to be spinning on the SD's (and all newer Fords) for them to send a signal...it's a battery saving thing so they don't send a signal when the vehicle is parked.

I believe that the pressure sending unit in the tire is affected by temperature. On a hot day with all instruments on the sensor fault comes on. A cool day also with the 5th wheel on does not produce the same results.

Does any one have a similar problem?

This only happens when the 5th wheel is in tow.

Dealer repair

The local dealer has replaced 2 rear sensors this past Friday at the dealers cost as a trial. I will be using the 5th wheel in a couple of weeks. Let's see if the tire sensor fault light comes on or not.
