Programmer is going to be a waste of money on the 4.2,concerning exhaust, you could have a set of duals put on,but this would still be somewhat of a waste.
Dont get me wrong,Ive had a 97 with the 4.2,and now an 07 with the same powerplant.Loved the 97,and the 07 is a dream to drive.
Just isnt alot that will help this small v-6 in a full size truck.

Well I'm not too concerned with the power aspect as much as the sound. Would it still be a waste of time or is there something out there that can "man up" my truck?

Well with a 4.2 exhaust isn't gonna be beefy as many other people will say... But I myself have a 99 with a 4.2 and 5 speed with a SIDO Flowmaster 40 series with 3.5 inch tips and it kinda wines a bit in first and second but sounds better through the other gears. Sounds good idling also. Just my two cents

Ya I am looking at changing up the exhaust also on my '00 F150 4.2L I am getting this weekend. Its to quiet but don't want it to sound like crap. Seems like Flowmaster is the muffler that most run on their 4.2L.
