I have a 1986 F-150 with a V8 and I want to know what kind of muffler would give me more horse power and better fuel milage.

 

Just about any high flow muffler will help in this area. Then you need to consider your cat. Swap that to a high flow unit. Then your intake needs to be less restrictive as well. All these items together will equal more power and better MPG.

I like the Magnaflow mufflers for the reason stated in the Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster post.

You will get many different views on this subject. The majority of this board likes the Flowmasters. They are a good option. I opted to be different.

 

well if you live in a state with no inspections and you didn't mind the noise you could go with a straight pipe. but again that does get a little noisey.

 

I had straight pipe and I have more horsepower with my new muffler, I have hooker Aero Chambers... I really like it, you can see right through then thing but still muffles sound and gives just enough back pressure. In MY opinion
