info on my new used F350

ok now that im a true ford truck ouner school me!
i have a 2003 SD"dont know what that means"F350 crew cab.
with a 6.8efi V-10 "dont know jack about the specs of this motor please fill me in!!!"
is this a 2 or 3 valve and the pros and cons of both???
I have been a chevy man for a loooong time till 2007 when i got a toyota tundra with the Iforce v8.

well we sold it to the FORD dealership she works for payed it off and made some coin to buy this

now my wife can drive the truck to work with her head high in the air and we can tow our new trailer with no problems.

this unit is pushing 7960lbs bone empty put water camping stuff propane beer and your pushing 10,000 the yoda had a tow cap of 10,200 the new old ford paperwork says it has a 9900#GVWR package so i think im looking better weight wise
in closing thanks for the help in advance i love to know every thing about what im driving and working on and i will be working on this truck headers from BANKS next month! wiring is crusty so its going to need me

Thanks for the reply I have a couple ford buddies but the truck is so new to me I still have to pay the guy for it in two hrs.
Then I can wash it and take a proper pick!

Nice truck, same color as mine

The 2-valve puts out 315HP and 425ft/lbs of torque, the 3-valve is higher at 362 hp and 457 ft/lbs or thereabouts.

You have a 2-valve.

What gears are in it?

I thought the i force was 381. Anyway, you are picking up 25 ft lbs of torque vs. the Toyota. Also, not knocking Toyota in any way but the ford is built much stronger in regard to the chassis, suspension, frame etc. Just take a look at the difference in the rear axle for example. The difference in that is about the same difference in the whole truck build wise.
Enjoy your new ride. I have an 03. Love it, you won't be lacking anything.

your also comparing a engine from 2003 compared to 2007..

if you wanna compare the 6.8 V10 to that Yota's mill then you need to look at 05+ 3V V10's...

grats on the SD, now you have a truck with a actual spine.. unlike that Yota which has a frame that flexs like a wet noodle...

You do not need to be schooled as you already made the right truck choice.
As for headers I would say a tuner would be money more well spent. Unless your going for sound in which case research well, the V10 will never sound like a V8.
The ford program in my truck stays in closed loop. the only time it switches to open loop is when I am coasting to a stop. A tuner can help with this. Also a tuner can work with the trans shift strategy to optimize what you get out of the truck if, it is auto. Headers are cool but the bang for the buck just isn't there.
Research the site its full of both usefull and useless information but you'll find opinions for sure.

GVWR is how much the truck can legally weigh. Towing capacity is something different.

What I know is true for my 06. I would think yours is the same. You can tow whatever you want as long as you are under you GCWR, and the tongue weight does not cause you to exceed your GVWR or GAWR. Lastly make sure your hitch and hardware are rated appropriately. Most factory hitches are 5K WC and 12.5K WD

GCWR-Gross Combined Weight Rating
GVWR-Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
GAWR-Gross Axle Weight Rating
WC-Weight Carrying
WD-Weight Distributing

If you need more info check out the towing forum

You'll be glad you went with the Banks. I put Thorley long tube headers on my truck at around 23k miles or so and put the stock manifolds in drawer. The stock manifolds really suck and don't flow for crap. Your also saying goodbye to the exhaust flutter noise by going with the headers.

If you could swing a gear change to 4.30 that would help greatly. The 3.73 gears in a gasser SD is the wrong gears, I know I have 3.73s in my truck. Definatly pick up a tow tune and a performance tune from 5 star.
