That's a rip and probably why it is so cheap. There are other sources online for the googling.

Hey tractor man - I did this mod on a 99 Expedition, a 2000 Excursion and a 2002 SportTrac. The door seal design is different on all those vehicles but the mod works just as well in each. If I remember right, there is a single, large channel in the 05 that you would run the surgical tubing through. It really pays off on a vehicle with a few years on it and makes a huge difference.

Is this more of a preventive mod right now or were you having problems?

Mostly preventative but even the brand new trucks benefit from the extra door slamming resistance. Never have been able to get my kids to not slam the door. It also helped right away with some rattling on the washboards. I've done this several times and glad each time.

EpicCowlick, first post though I 've been reading here for a while. I've been privileged to a wealth of information here and a very warm atmosphere. Thanks for your video and how-to for the door mod, my '02 driver's door can really use the help. I noticed the 3/8" tubing you referenced had a 1/4" ID and 1/16" wall thickness. I had ordered some black 3/8" tubing with 1/8" ID and 1/8" wall thickness. Do you think the thicker wall will have a negative impact on the door mod? Thanks again

The thicker the wall, the more pressure the seal will have against the door. That can be good or bad depending upon the state of your current seal. I wouldn't use 1/8th inch wall on a new truck but it may work well on yours. It's not that big of a deal to install so you can give it a shot and see how it works. If it's too stiff, just pull it out and put thinner tubing in. Not much of a loss.

Remember that it does take a couple of days for everything to "settle in" after the mod.

I did mine this weekend. Cost was about 120.00, not including the "Round" 50' Fishtape, which was 55.00 bucks. I'll needed one anyway. I went through two cans of Lubricant. FYI.

The 3/8 inch by 10 ft surgical tubing was 17.50 at Home Depot, Lowes didn't have it. I looked for a roll but it was spur of the moment buy. I'm sure it can be found cheaper online. It was the yellow/tan color. I had to buy 6. I just taped it together with duct/electrial tape to get roughly the other 4-5 feet.

It does sound quieter and happy with the MOD ,especially since I went with All-Terrain tires.

Thanks.

Great feedback. Isn't it a shame how spotaneity is always so expensive? Lol. Wow, two cans of lube? Garage floor must have been slick as an ice rink...
