Brake caliper pins corroded? Never heard of such. That sounds like a classic gouge to me. And if they are corroded, it's not an issue until you need a brake job done IMHO.

Quoted me two hours of labor for servicing all 4 wheels, so $170. Brakes seemed fine to me, and they said that the wear on the pads looked normal, so I doubt they are binding up. I let them go ahead and do it.

I'm going to try the oil/fuel filter change myself this weekend.
Pretty common problem. I grease them myself when I rotate tires.

It is a common issue, in certain areas of the country. I assume it still is on the '08 and up.

Agreed, if it is still covered. But that coverage is only 3yr/36k, so it could be expired on either time or miles. Definitely something to consider.

Truck still has a bit left on the original bumper to bumper, although brake parts typically aren't included right? Didn't think to ask if it would be covered by warranty on the phone, I will definitely mention it when I pick it up.

On a somewhat related topic, what do people think about purchasing extended service contracts from Ford? I was quoting extended warranties on the Ford site, would cost me $835 for an additional 3 yrs/36K miles, which would be the max that I plan to own this truck. That warranty would also include the radiator and thermostats. From what I understand, the cost of a rad replacement alone would justify the cost for the ext warranty.

Thoughts?

mine was out of ford warranty, and sold thru a chrysler dealer.. so I had to buy their warranty.. $2200 for 100,000 additional miles, 5 yrs.

they have replaced the steering box and fan clutch already..
a radiator (mine has had 2 already) is around $1200..

it is also prorated, so if I surrender the car as part of a trade, I get the remaining back..

835/36 = $23/month I think cheap insurance.. (long as rads are covered)..

ford will also let me extend the engine/drivetrain warranty to 200,000 as long as I do it before 100,000. 40,000 to go!.. put almost 20,000 on it since I bought it last Sept.

Brake linings and rotors are not covered because they are wear parts. I would argue my *** off that slide pins should be covered. Might win, might lose, but it's a good argument to have.

I like the Ford ESP protection. Don't buy anything except the Ford ESP. And you can buy it from FTE sponsors at a rate likely to be much lower than your local dealer. Try the PartsGuyEd link at the top of this page. Email him and he will mail you back a quote. He will want your VIN. Also, you must buy it before your 3/36 runs out, so don't wait.

So the guide pins aren't considered part of the warranty because they are considered a maintenance item. So I ended up having to pay for it.
