Searching for a canopy

Hey guys,

This one is mostly for you WA and pacific northwest guys, but I am looking for a canopy for my long bed. Looks like I am going to have to make the trek from WA to CA mid winter, and bring the 2 dogs, so a canopy is a must. Anyone have any ideas of where to look for one on the cheap? I dont care if it is the correct color, as it will just be on once the snow hits, and will come off once winter is over. Thanks guys!

Yes he does, that's what they call them up there. I would look on CL.

edit: I just did a quick search and came up with this one. It's the best as far as I'm concerned, a lot cheaper than what I paid for mine also!

I've got a GemTop canopy (camper shell for those of you in northern Mexico..er California) that I have been thinking about selling for some time.

It's white and fits my 2001 long bed perfectly. It's got a few minor dings and scratches but heck it's almost as old as my kid.

If you're seriously interested I can send you some pictures and we can talk. I'm actually headed up your way next week and I could deliver it to you or really close.

I've always had a canopy on my trucks. In fact my other two trucks have them now. They are great for keeping things dry during the 10 months of rain that we seem to have around here. However, I've got an actual camper and it has turned into a chore rounding up a couple of guys to help me take the sucker off and put it back on... so I've decided to sell it.

YA, a canopy. I've never heard it called anything else. Strange. And I wish i could help. Before I bought this truck from my dad, he had a canopy to match but he never used it and it was on blocks in the lawn just getting weathered. He told me if I could sell it, then I could have the money. Now I wish I wouldnt have

wow apparently I am horrible at searching craigslist, because I completely missed that leer. Its the right color too...too bad the guy wants close to new price for it. Maybe i'll email him and see if he'll take a couple hundred lower. tinywonder, I would love some pics. I dont really need anything fancy, just enough to keep the dogs dry and keep them safe and comfortable on the drive south.

that canopy is called a topper here in MI. CL is great but you really have to be patient to get what you want at a good price.
Taking it off for the summer really is a ball buster. Great to have once hunting season comes around though.

Thanks Jeff. I kinda figured.

I've heard 'em called toppers, but I don't think I've ever heard the term canopy used before when referring to what we know as camper shells, here in in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia.

Why would you call it a camper shell? I dont camp in the back of my truck lol. I've always called them canopys too. Of course I was born in Wa, and lived in Idaho for most of my late childhood into adulthood.

ive always heard them called campershells also. i thought canopy was the ones made of a canvas material. you might looked into them, might be cheaper and easier to store when not in use.

If I lived somewhere where its warm all year I would think about gettin the canvas ones to haul the dog and stuff around in. But in Ellensburg ( near the Columbia River Basin ) it gets pretty cold in that neck of the woods ( hills lol ) I wouldnt want to put my dogs in the back of the truck that time of the year. The canopy would be ideal if he puts a cab boot and has a slider in the canopy so the heat from the cab can heat the back to help keep the dogs warmer durning his travel.

Speaking of weather its hailing pretty good right now lol. Dont like the weather in Colorado.....WAIT FIVE MINUTES
