Water in Fuel

Water in Fuel
OK, newby here. I got the WIF light to come on while on the boat ramp (parked downhill) this past weekend. As soon as I turned around to pull the boat out (back up the ramp) it went off and has not come back on again. Even on the same scenario the next day. I just bought the truck, but I know the fuel filters were changed less than 2000 miles ago.
Should the WIF light/message stay on? Or is it typical to come on once and not come on again for a while? Could I really have that much water in the fuel with the filters being changed that recently?? I've been running the Diesel Kleen (grey bottle), but is there a different diesel additive that also removes water?
I will most likely perform the drain procedure this weekend (saw the other posts) but was curious. I also wanted to replace with the new drain plug as I have got the brass one and knowing me, I'll strip it....LOL
Any help/past experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say I've ever gotten enough water in my fuel to turn on the light, so I can't answer whether it should stay on or not. I suspect though, that it's a simple switch. When you were pointed downhill you got water to the sensor and when you were level the water was below the sensor again.
As far as water in the fuel after only 2000 miles, all it takes is one fill up from a station with some water in it. It never hurts to drain the separator as often as is necessary. If you did get some water in the tank, the fuel pickup may pick up bits of it for some time.
As to the fuel additive. The purpose of a diesel fuel additive is very different than that of a gasoline additive. Gas additives contain emulsifiers. This is to allow the fuel to mix into the water and pass through the engine.
Water passing through the injectors on a diesel is very bad. Diesel fuel additives should contain demulsifiers. They should help the water and the fuel separate, so the water separator can better do it's job.
There are a number of good diesel additives. Diesel Kleen is very popular. Another popular one is Stanadyne. PM-22 is a Ford product that is also good. All of them should work to help separate fuel and water.

Pulled the original OEM plug (brass). It drained for about 30 seconds with just a little bit of water at the initial part of the drain. I had about 2/3 of a tank of fuel. I also used the tip about putting the left front higher than the rest of the truck and very little hit the rail. I used one of my ramps to do that. Installed the new/upgrade drain plug and that is going to be A LOT easier the next time. Love that you can hand tighten/loosen. Thanks for all the help and a great resource for a newbie 6.0 guy...

Drain plug is in side of module faceing driveshaft.
Loosen/remove plug to alow first water then fuel to drain(1/2 cup is usually sufficent unless you get a real bad batch of fuel).
