High Idle Mod ???

Has anyone performed the high idle mod on a 03 F250 or 04 F250 6.0 diesel? If so, can you provide any insight into the project? I have my switch and am ready to do this...are the (2) different wires easily identifiable? Thanks

On some 2003-2004 models, as near as I can tell, the high idle doesn't work with manual transmissions. I think it might depend on the PCM strategy that you have, but I've never been able to verify this. I could never get mine to work.

All the same wires are there. You can try to connect power to the PTO circuit and see what happens. You need to have the parking brake on and your foot off of the brakes for the high idle to work.

You have to know the secret hand shake

The instrument cluster is in diagnostic mode in the video. Key off, push odometer reset button and hold, Key On, hold for 5 sec or until gauge sweeps, you are now in diagnostic mode. To scroll, push reset button till you approach tAc, start truck, the odometer now displays actual RPM being sent to the cluster. When you turn the truck off the diagnostic mode will exit.

Did the wiring and/or colors change between Early 2003 and later (2003.5) models?

My 02-13-2003 does not look like this.
I found the "blunt end" white/blue 12v wire near the OBD-II -- but the "blunt end" wires behind the fuse panel are the following colors:
Solid Blue - solid Red - solid White - solid Black -- all approx 16gauge.
Solid Yellow - Dark Green/Yellow - Light Green/White - White/Orange -- all approx 20gauge.

I was hoping to connect the 12v wire to the SEIC wire, and just use the E-brake pedal as activation switch (as some have claimed to have done).

It's possible my 2003.0 is Pre-SEIC, and needs an APCM (AIC) like the 7.3's.

Any Early (Jan-May) '03 owners accomplish this mod? If so, how/which wires/etc?

I cant seem to get this. I found the designated wires, piggy-backed some wires to them, simply twisted the wire ends together to make sure it works and nothing. My white w/ blue stripe has power so that's not the issue. I found the light blue w/ yellow stripe but it was also above the OBD II port. So unless theres two light blue w/ yellow stripes, mine lines up with the video but does not work

Wire colors were different on my 03:

They were both "blunt cut". W/B in expected location, IIRC G/Y near E-Brake

My blunt ends appear to be G/W, Y/R, Y/W. Then there's 3 others but they're heavier wires

See my post #9, above for all my colors.

Our vehicles are different, so colors may not be the same.

If you're feeling adventurous, temporarily touch the W/B (12v) wire near the OBDII plug, to each of your suspect wires behind fuse box.

I got lucky first try - no smoke or flames, rpm slowly climbed to 1200.

I see your post but no answer as to which color wire to use. I'd rather not go blowing fuses if I can help it lol
