could be one of those or both...amazing that the truck still runs after so long.also there is mister fordguysomething in the comments telling people that the truck is a 1956 f800??
i hope he is not in fte or im in trouble
That would have been quite a ride. It looks to me like a 51-52, not a 56.
This is a freakin amazing thread. I have only known these trucks as classics since I was born in 81. To see a gallery of these trucks in there element in their time is great.
For the record, it appears both of those are Mercurys. The monkeyface in the background has the signature Mercury 4 stainless grille bars instead of the 'Ford 5', and you can see a 'clean spot' in between the front hood openings, where the Mercury emblem goes.
They're both Merc, yep. The pic in it's original format was small, and you couldn't really tell. So I blew up the pic and posted it. Then I noticed, as you say. I'd be happy to have both.
Awesome trucks Justin! did you take these pictures?? looks like Kansas Plates?? have any more pictures of the 38 Cabover firetruck?? I would love to see more details of it or if you know where it's at...
I have a 38 COE firetruck that will be put back on the road eventually.

Awesome Trucks, Love the Tandems. I guess I never realized the Mercs came with the extra trim along the edge or face of the fenders. Looks nice, but I bet it's hard to find that trim in decent shape today...
here's another working truck, not bonus built but cool anyway.
Cheers

note the position of the parking lights on those Mercs.
also note the truck with the blade on it is a Marmon-Herrington...

Yes, the 46-7's and 48-50 Mercs were dolled up quite a bit over the Fords, with different grilles and lots of unique trim pieces. Fomoco must have spent a fortune to do it, too, in comparison to how many they sold. By '51, it seems they came to their senses and limited the changes pretty much to some minor badging. And I'm guessing you're right, in that those pieces would be really tough to replace if need be.
