superchips tuner for V10???

I had someone tell me the other day that he put a chip in his '00 F250 w/ V10, and it increased his gas mileage 4-5 mpg. He also said that he used 89 octane instead of the 91-92 octane, and didn't have any knocking or pinging..

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know exactly which chip he put in it, but I've been looking at the Superchips MicroTuner, and wondering what difference it will make in the MPG area..

With the price of gas going up, and driving 100 miles each day, I'm looking for anything to help...

Thanks in advance for anyones input!!!

4 to 5 MPG increase is very doubtful. If your check all the boards and forums most guys maybe see 1 to 2 mpg increase when installing a chip or using a microtuner. V-10's in SD's normally get 10 to 13 mpg depending on cab style, tires, gears etc. A 5 mpg increase on a truck getting 10 miles per gallon is a 50% increase, NO WAY. Was this guy also trying to sell you water front property on Three Mile Island in PA. ?

superchips tuner for V10???

uh...well...since you mentioned it, he said the view is great from the shore!!!!!

I figured it was too good to be true, but I figured I should ask.. I know the best way to get better mileage is to keep my foot off the accelerator, but everytime I try, some D%%GE or CH#$Y pulls up and has to be reminded why FORDS RULE!!

Thanks for your input GAV10...

By the way, did you have to remove your spare to put your auxillary tank in?

bddo,

Aux fuel tank sits in the truck bed, under the tool box. I only use it on long trips while pulling my travel trailer. With the short bed trucks having a 29 gallon tank, only 24 usuable non-harpooned, I only had a 200-220 mile range. The extra 25 gallons can get me to the lake house, or home to the parents, without stopping.

rollnxl,

thanks for the feedback...

I am curious though, are there issues with switching back and forth on the program from 87 to 91/92 octane and back? Does this cause premature wear on the engine?

Thanks.
