Transfer case problems

Hey guys I have a 97 F-150 4.6L 4X4, in the past month I noticed that there was a ticking noise coming from my transfer case and as the days went bye it seemed to get worse so I took it down to my local ford dealer and had one of their mechanics look at it. He told me that I had a bad bearing in it and also needed an oil pump put in. I went ahead and had him replace the bearing and pump, after a week of waiting on parts it was finally put back together and I was happy to have it back. A few days later just for kicks I put it in 4X4 and it wouldn't engage while I was moving. The transfer case made a real bad grinding noise and thunked real loud when i slowed down. This has never happened before and in the past I have shifted into 4X4 going as fast a 45 with no problems. Any ideas about what it could be? I know the mechanic has rebuilt thousands of transmissions and transfer cases, this is pretty much the only work he does. Thanks for any help.

My first stop would be back to the mechanic.
