04 Excursion 6.0l diesel ficm problem?

Hi,

New to the forum hoping to get some help with my problem.

prior to my trip to Reno Ive had a cold start issue, hardly never drive the truck. on the way there engine light came on started surging a bit made it there, in the morning went out to see if it would start nope wanted to but just cranks and farted. my brother put hes reader on it and got all kinds of codes, with the engine off (won't start) codes like this p0046,p0261,p0264,po267,p0270,p0273,p0276,p0279,p0 281,p0282,p0401,p2614,p2617,p0217.

I have read on these code 8 of them or the injectors circut low and i have found the others. however we checked before when it was having trouble with the cold start and no codes would read.

do you think it might be the FICM ? and if so i read there was a way to solder it to save some bucks. could some one give me a idea were to find the specs on how to do this.

Thanks

I just went through the same thing with my 04 F250. Using your brothers OBD reader clear the codes and then plug in you block heater. Let it warm up over night and then try to start it. If it starts without all the issues you describe then it is the FICM. Check out swamps diesel on the internet as they have a detailed description of how to check the FICM and repairs. I took mine to the dealer and had it fixed as I did not have a week of down time to mess with it. $1400 ouch!!!!!

Welcome to FTE onGlue, read through the Tech Folder as we have several articles on FICM repair. The FICM is located on the left side (Drivers) valve cover

You can't mess up what's already messed up. If you are nervous about the soldering then find a good electronic's tech who can solder. At worst case it's still a core. The repair procedure is in the 6.0 tech folder at the beginning of the 6.0 forum.

Check your mass air flow sensor wiring where it plugs into the sensor and where it's clipped to the dipstick. Code indicates a wire problem.

Thanks found the wire it was unplugged no more code. but now i waited to start it up in the morning and lumping rough running seems like the fuel leaked out of system i don't know. but no codes to check runs like a bat out of hell when she warms up. just that cold start sounds and run like my brother just told me he got another code p132b ? any ideas ? we fix one and get another. with my bro now lol.

Thanks again,

the p2263 is an underboost code. clear it and retest. this can be caused by nay number of things.
low icp, injector fualts, ebp faults, map faults, ficm issues, low fuel pressure, egr issues, just to name a few.

still lumpy cold start about 2 minutes till she warms up. i wonder if i take it to the dealer and have them update the ficm ? and to top it off i broke my radiator top nipple going to the bottle of the radiator with my hand plastic. now got radiator coming in for 210.00 for my hand rest, tried to find just the top, no one has one i can find looks easy to replace.

Well just thought I'd vent...

remove radiator and take it to a radiator repair shop have top tank removed and then installed a brass nipple, reinstall tank for less the $40.00 works just fine.
