5.4 3 valve engine swap into 1957 F100
Hello all, I am new to the Forum and had a question about an engine swap on a 1957 F100 that I happen to own. I came across a 5.4 liter 3 valve motor out of a 2005 F150 and I have everything including the computer. My question to anyone out there is how much work is it going to be to put a late model engine into an early model truck such as mine. We had plans to keep the old truck looks but have a new supercharged powerplant to run it. Just curious to how practical this will be if it can be done at all. Thanks for all the help.

Fabracating motor mounts should not be a problem, you may have to build your own wing mounts and use the bisquit style insulators.. Classic Performance Products has a nice pictorial of 3 valve swap into a 1968 ford pickup. they can help you out. The 68 frame rails are not all that different from a 57 or my 55 for that matter. I have a 69 waiting inline when i get my 55 finished. Shaun Hyland motorsports has products and know how to help with the technical side of the swap. He has been racing and building mod motor cars longer than anyone.

Stephen67 is right, anything will fit. if i run across a Navigator 5.4 DOHC 4 valve at a decent price i may have to go that route on my 69. You said your going to supercharge your 3 valve? or you have a supercharged 380 horse lightning motor ? My daughter had a f150 lightning 360 horse version with 2 valve heads, that pickup ran pretty good stock for weighing 4700 lbs. it ran 8.80 consistant in the 1/8 mile. your truck is going to fly.

i think the 2 biggest hurdles you might have to overcome is hooking up a speedometer and bypassing the anti-theft function in the computer (if the truck is equipped with it).
i think the newer trucks use a speed sensor to run the speedometer so you will have to see if you can find a speedometer that will work with the sensor. there are some maufacturers that make an adapter to run a regular speedometer, but most of the ones i saw were for the older AODE transmissions so not sure if they would work on the newer trannys.
as far as the anti-theft, i am not sure, but have heard that you can by-pass it to fool the computer.
do some chcecking as i remeber these topics being discussed before.

ford racing makes a harness for the 4.6/5.4 3v models to go into hotrods.. (bypass PATS, etc) It requires a 2007-2009 harness tho. and the special harness/computer ain't cheap.. http://www.fordracingpartsdirect.com...017-463vtk.htm
including the throttle by wire throttle pedal
there was a set of stories about it in Classic Trucks or Custom Classic Trucks last year..
here is the install manual

my 3V 5.4L is from a 2006, and I acquired a 2008 harness from a rollover wreck to meet the harness requirement
(not installed yet)
