leaking on driveway

what i thought was a transmission leak on my 00 excutrsion 7.3 diesel, smells/tastes/looks like a oil! i think its running down these circle plugs on the back of the engine over the trans inspection pan and onto the ground, it uses about 1/2 quart oil every 500 or so miles.. give or take. also looks like the passanger valve cover might have a leak on the dipstick fill tube cause the whole cover had oil over it, i didnt know there was a sticker there tell i wiped it with a towel.. I also checked the bolts holding the valve covers (the ones i could get to anyhow) and they were super tight.

any tricks to them big round plugs on the engine or valve covers.. its got 180000 miles so i would think it might be time to chance some gaskets.

help!

It started leaking after i pulled a camper home and was getting on it pretty good up a hill.. i have the ccv mod from riff raff on also i get some oil on the ground from that too.

How wet is it ? Have you tried taking a mirror and see if its leaking from there?
Check the valley to see if its dry.

i took a mirror and looked at them big plugs and they look wet and fresh around the edges.. also the passanger side valve cover gasket looks wet under the back side of it, whats the trick for checking the valley im not sure where that is at.

Thats the center of the engin, look under your spider. Thats where an intake manifold would be. Look to see if there is puddles of oil . If there is it will eventually leak out the back of the valley through the small hole and leak down the side of your bell housing. If the plugs are leaking I believe its an o-ring. Did one many years ago on and OBS truck.

I am not denying there is oil there, but look between your fuel filter and your turbo, see if there is oil sitting in the Valley of your motor. if it is not right there, then look under your turbo.

maybe i will have to take some parts off this weekend to get better pictures, i ordered the hpop kit to reseal it just incase, if its not leaking now im sure i will be able to use it in the future. i wish my camera was smaller to fit in there better! there just doesnt seem to be any space.. maybe i could use a mirror with the camera.
