Changing fuel filter

Does the fuel filter need to be changed after a period time even though the mileage hasn't been reached? I have maybe 6k miles in over a year since I last changed the filters.
Since I'm about to embark on a 2500 mile trip towing, I'm curious if it is worth spending the money to change the filters at this point.

Well the fuel filter does a couple things. First it filters out particles in the fuel and then it seperates the water from the fluid (hence the membrain around the filter). So in that case I would change the filters. Think of it as. The money saved on fuel for the year spend it on the filter to protect everything else.

Fuel filters are cheaper than injector(s).

If I was going that far from home I would do everything to make sure that my ride was in top shape. IMO changing the fuel filters would be cheap insurance and peace of mind.

If she is running good, I would fire her up and go!

With that low of mileage on those filters you would be wasting about $60, plus you avoid the thrill of diesel fuel running down your arm.........again.

Have a safe trip!

I change my fuel filters every 5000 miles when I change the oil. Might be overkill but I sleep better at night.
