First coat complete! This is kind of fun! Another question for ya if you don't mind me asking; I sprayed the first coat on (extremely light) and I cant slightly see the sanding marks from when I wet sanded it last with 800 grit. Is this o.k. and when I put my following coats of base on will it cover up? Thanks Brad!

HVLP, 40 seemed to work the best. Scratches covered up no problem. Just have some orange peel to wet sand but overall for my first paint job I think it went pretty well.

Hold up....If you used Metalic base dont sand the base coat! wait till you put the clear coat on to sand out any orange peel.

Wet sanding is not a bad job, just made sure you keep it WET. Start with 1000 on a block and do the flat surfaces DO NOT do body lines or edges. Then hit everything again with 2000. Then buff out. Keep the buffer moving and dont stop in one spot. Make sure when you are buffing you dont "cut " into the edges

Hey brad, what brand of clear do you use? I used Omni and I have some nasty orange peel. My color looked perfect but the clear turned out like ****. No runs just orange peel.

If you used 40 lbs at the gun, and you used an HVLP gun, I'd say that is a huge part of the orange peel problem. Once you exceed the manufacturers recommedation for air pressure, it's no longer capable of of laying down a smooth finish. The biggest problem any painter will make is not following the instructions, whether it's by the paint manufacturer, the gun manufacturer or whatever. Even if you don't have the setup sheet that came with your gun, every gun company has their setup guidelines online, and lots of them even have a FAQ list.

I used PPG's Shop Line. Lays down fine for me. But as stated above, Did you use a HVLP gun or a Gravity, or syphon?
