I'm not even gonna address the homade body lift questions. If you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing it.
In addition to the coils, you will need radius arm drop brackets, trac-bar drop bracket, adjustable trac-bar, drop pitman arm, extended brake lines and c-bushing set. For best results, other steering mods are required. But saftey/drivability doesn't seem to be your main concern..........

I say just shove those springs on there. Take your steel tubing and weld a 6" spacer on your pitman arm. Unbolt the brake lines from the frame. They are steel, but they will probably bend and stretch. drop brackets? they are for wussies who like proper camber. If its really a problem, weld some more steel tubing. And to top it off, I'd do a 6" body lift. And go ahead and cut your seatbelts out of that thing.
When youre done, send the pics in to scarysteering!

I'm now worried that you may not realize that my entire post was tongue in cheek.
What difference would it make if you drove it every day or not? If the body lift fails while youre driving it youre gonna be just as dead either way.
Rough country and jbg both make a 6" kit for your truck. I'd advise that you check out their offerings and follow suit. The jbg one prolly has a nicer ride.

a 4 inch rough country lift will set you back about 385 bucks. u can do it all with minor tools and you dont have to have a hoist to raise it. a home made body lift is going to require steel tubing, cutting, welding, extending lines, wires, steering components, bumpers, fuel lines and filler, not too mention the annoying gaps you will have between the frames. plus its gonna ride like crap. and just cus their is a low probability itll fail doesnt mean it wont happen. people win the lottery everyday. and their odds are way worse than yours. with a suspension lift you can fit 35 inch or 36 inch tires under it, which will get you just bout anywhere.
