MPG 4:30 gears

The only neg. I see is the $18k price. seems kinda high to me! considering I paid $19k for my 02 back in feb. 06 with 17k miles on it. BTW I swapped from 3.73 to 4.30 and it is the best mod that can be done. the X needs the lower gearing otherwise it like to hunt for shifts around town.
And mine isn't for sale. I like it.

I picked up my 02 2WD with 113K miles V10 for $8k back in July 09. Gave it a good tune up, replaced all the usual tires, shocks, belts, etc. Runs great! Would not sell mine either. I realized I got a great deal on it. Haven't seen price like that for the same year. The sweet bonus was I discovered I had the 4.30 axle. Bought it before I knew this forum existed or anything about Excursions except it was a great tow vehicle. As I learn more and more about Ex's, I'm so impressed and always fascinated with the new things I learn from reading off of this website.

'02 4x4 here with 4:30's and 110k miles on it now. I calculate mileage every tank on each of my rigs...I'm sure that's a sign of some sort of OCD. The 'Cursion religiously gets 15mpg on the highway and 11.5-12 towing a 5000lb trailer. I never exceed 70 mph with this rig. The half-hour longer it takes to get to PHX is worth less than the extra four gallons of pep-juice. Also, I do everything in my power to avoid overdrive...if that tach pops above 3k rpm my fuel consumption rises like an Atlas rocket. Know your rig's shift points and you are good to go.
Only mods on the rig are cat-back, cold-air intake and all synthetic fluids. I have multiple sets of tires I change out depending on what I'm up to. With the 4.30's I get slightly better economy with larger tread. I typically drop back down to stock size for towing to maximize the torque.
It should be noted that my wife gets at least two mpg less than me when she drives. She's a "throttle smashing, gas it all the way to the red light then pounce on the brakes" style driver. Needless to say I go through brake pads too frequently. Her father has gotten a few choice comments from me over the years for not correcting those bad habits when she was learning to drive.
One last thought...forget about "economy" in the city...expect bad. I get about 11mpg regualrly so we use another rig in town. Just too much weight to get rolling efficiently.
Happy 'Cursioning!

Picked up my 05 with 88k in feb paid 15750 but it need a some new tires and front brakes. wasnt perfect cosmetically as it has a dent in front bumper but still got almost 4k less than blue book. So $1000 in tires, $300 in brakes, and eventually a nice bumper and im still 2k under blue book. If it is a dealer, dont be afraid to lowball and wait for counteroffer. Only private sales get offended by lowballs.

What's so terrible about it? That mileage range has been reported by MANY on here and is about what I get in mine with 4.30s and 285/75/16 tires. 14 if I take it slow and steady maybe.
