Mothers Headlight Restoration Kit

So I don't know if anyone else has this problem with their Expedition headlights but mine are really bad. So I thinking about trying the Mothers PowerBall 4Lights Headlight Restoration Kit, has anyone tried this?
I will be using this on my 2000 Expedition.

I haven't tried that particular kit, but I have used one, and if you follow the directions they do a pretty good job restoring the lens. There isn't that yellow tint any longer and they look almost new again. I say go for it.

All kits on the shelf are crap. Removing the light housing and working your way up to 2000 grit sandpaper and wax is the proper way to fully resurface the lens.

^ this is the method that i was always told. i recently read that sanding and buffing the headlights diminishes the uv coating on the lights until its gone, which will then make it come back faster. what he does is use a metal polish, blue magic was his choice and use a microfiber towel and elbow grease. lightly rub it into the headlight and let it sit for approx. 30 secs and remove it by hand, no tools, sand paper, buffer pads etc. the metal polish has a chemical reaction with the haze and eats it up. after youve done this wash the headlight and wax normally to slow down the process of the haze returning.

comments?

Wet sanding then buffing is the only real way to restore yellowed lenses.

Depending on how yellow they are you may not need to wet sand them. It is a good idea to put something on the lenses. I use Zaino myself.

I bought brand spankin' new headlights for my '01 Gator off of ebay for around $120. Installed in about 10 minutes.

All new bulbs. All new lenses. All new reflectors. All new gaskets. All new everything. $120. 10 minutes.

I haven't needed to polish the headlights on my Expedition, but I did use Rain-X brand kit for my 97 MB E420 and while the lenses became much better, they are far from being "like new".

Maybe I'll try the toothpaste method next. I need to be careful with them as I don't really want to spend $900+ each on new ones.

Save yourself some time and trouble

I replaced both of mine from this website 00 2000 Ford Expedition Headlight Assembly - Body Electrical - Replacement, Action Crash, Right - Passenger Side, Left - Driver Side - PartsGeek

$18!!! I both drivers and passenger side and they're great.

Think about it even if the quality is cr@p (which it's not) you can just replace them every year.

I usually spend $10 in supplies and 20 minutes of energy. I dont see the value in spending an extra $110, waiting a week for shipping, and taking out the old ones anyway. You guys keep buying replacements, while the rest of us keep our stock ones for years

Believe it...or not:

Tube Toothpaste does a better job removing the yellow from head lights than any kit.

Add a bit of water and scrub away.

Paraphrased old ad slogan: "You'll wonder where the yellow went when you clean your headlight with Pepsodent!"

Ok so I have a buffer, so maybe I should try toothpaste. What kind of toothpaste, whitening?

I used 3M Headlight Restoration Kit. It worked very well. I never heard of the haze coming back. I think its been about 6 months and they still look good.
