transfer case

My brother has a 97 expy 4x4. Recently, he had his transfer case replaced at a cost of $2200, does that sound right?

Another question that he and I had been arguring over. He had hit a bolder and thought nothing of it, untill the hole in the case ran dry and "melted" it. I say that your comprehensive on your insurance should cover it, he says no.

And last, doesn't all 4x4 have skid plates that cover the transfer case?

thanks, jason

See www.drivetrain.com for pricing. If it was a rebuilt unit replaced by a shop or dealer that would be about right. Figure $1200 for the TC and the rest in labor.

Collision would cover it, not comprehensive (unless you could prove unknown vandalism).

No, not all 4x4 have skid plates--Expeditions don't.
