Air bag?????????

I have a 96 F250 XL psd truck. On my insureance I get hit with a 200 dollar sercharge for no airbags. So today I was cleaning my truck and noticed a airbag symbol on my dash board. How can I figure out if there are air bags In the truck?

No Air Bag on F250HD until 1999. A PO may have changed out the speedo surround with one that had a Air Bag symbol on it.

Edit: After thinking more about this, your Instrument Cluster will have the Air Bag indicator even though you do not have an Air Bag. Ford used this same cluster in all pickups and some did have the Air Bag. Just as all clusters have the 4x4 indicator even if it is in a 2x4 truck.

I guess (most) anything is possible but it would require a lot of modification ie: steering wheel and coluum, sensors and wiring just for starters and I am not sure your Insurance Company would accept it since it was not a standard installation on that particular vehicle.

Sounds like a waste of money...You'd only be saving $200 a year, right?

Seems like a shame they make you pay more for not having bags. Consider a solid truck that big would probably DESTROY most Japanese/Chinese/Korean junk on the road these days, and you'd probably walk away jus fine from it. Maybe time to consider a new insurance company.

I am curious-who is your insurance company?? Never heard of a surcharge for no airbags. Sure isnt right. I wonder if they charge a surcharge for excessively small, inherently dangerous, imported cars.

If they don't, they should. I hope I never have to find out, though.
