Axle question

This should be a simple answer.

If you look at my truck from the rear, to the left of the rearend there is a hose that goes to a nipple on the axle. My hose broke at the nipple. It's obviously an easy fix. My question is what is it for?

I have had to replace my vent tube for my offroad jeep and my ford truck and I have found using PVC Braided tubing that you get at lowes works a lot better than the factory stuff. Have had It on my jeep for 3 years and still looks brand new, and have had it on my truck for about 6 months. The only problem I had was it needs painted black because the tubing is see through.

Some good fuel line will fix the problem, generally withstands the harsh gasses a bit better.

Awesome guys. This is why I love this site! I can ask a question no matter if its simple or complex and normally the answer to that question includes the answers to my next several questions. For example: Is there something better to replace it with than crappy rubber hose? That's awesome and I really do appreciate it.

The upgrade is cheap too. Lowes charges like $0.40 a foot so it only cost me like ten bucks for both axles and thats even running both vent tubes to the fire wall on my truck. Sure hope I never get water that high
And thanks for the comment.
