6.4 or 6.7L Powerstroke?

6.4 or 6.7L Powerstroke?
I may be ready to replace my Excursion with the 7.3L with a newer (but most likely used) diesel Superduty truck.
Looking around I am seeing some trucks equipped with the 6.4 and 6.7 that are within my price range. I gather the 6.4 was used from 2008-10 and the 6.7 is the current motor.
I have no personal experience with either. My application is daily driving and light towing (race car; rig probably weighs 6-7K loaded up).
Thoughts on which I should lean toward? Thank you.

Just hope your HPFP doesn't go out. I hear it is something like $15K to replace and ford won't warranty it...

And like all the engines, the number that don't have problems far outnumber those that do. And Ford doesn't "automatically" deny the warranty. The circumstances surrounding the failure dictate whether they will honor the warranty or not. Now, that being said, there are a greater share of these that are having trouble getting warranty, but still the number is small compared to those that have had no problems with their trucks.

Loaded up with emissions related technology and.....extremely reliable. IOW, the same path the gas engines took when the EPA started cracking down on them.
I'm sure there are plenty of guys around here that remember what passed for a "performance" vehicle back in the early 70's, and what a power robbing gas sucking bunch of crap the emissions tech of the time was. Today's performance gassers are more powerful, orders of magnitude cleaner, and get wayyy better fuel mileage than your daddy's did.
I'm betting the diesel side will see the same technology/performance/mileage curve the gass side did, except at a quicker pace.

That is all true, but, personally I wouldn't take the risk since $15K would buy me ANOTHER 7.3 truck.
The 6.0 guys said only a few are having head gasket trouble when they first came out too.
All I know is, the 6.7 came out and within a month guys were having fuel pump problems.

Really? I don't recall seeing one on FTE until they were out for more than a year. There was one where the pump failed and it was leaking fuel everywhere, but that was replaced under warranty without incident.
