I hooked up the 4 speed OD to the back of the motor and I think I'm going to go that route. Thanks to Blue50F-1 I was able to visualize a clutch solution. It should be easier to go to an auto if this become a PITA.

Thanks all pics of temp tranny

Hey Bob, your shift linkage is different than mine (course, your tranny is a bit different too), but if it helps, we hacked up a cheap steel baking pan from Wally-World to create a hump in which to house the shifter base (the rubber boot was too short). That's a solution for a problem you haven't gotten to yet, but hope it helps.

Thanks James, that tranny in the pic is only a temp unit it's good but it's aluminum so it's lighter for mock up. the tranny I'll use has a side mounter bar and linkage style unit.

OK the c4 showed it's a pan fill. Still kinda torn.... I called NAPA and the flywheel and clutch kit can be had for under $200... I'll have to start some more measurements, the tranny in there is not letting me work the crossmember like I want it to...

What are you trying to accomplish and what problems are you having? Are you trying to avoid cutting the stock crossmember or having trouble locating the engine crossmember? I'll be surprised if you can get anything to fit in there right without doing some cutting on the stock tranny crossmember. It's pretty common. I wouldn't fret too much over finding a solution that doesn't require it. Sometimes it's better to just come to Jesus with the fact that a smoke wrench and a SawZall are occasionally the best solution.

I think I have it figured out. The c4 fits no problem it had a different shaped tailshaft over the 4 speed. the tail hits the floor, if I use the c4 tranny mount I will not have the cut the crossmember. I just can't find my bolt stretcher.

Ya know, you really make me sick, Bob. You've gone from "Uh Oh, my motor's shot" to setting up a new drivetrain in about two or three weeks. It's taken me almost two years of plotting, planning and scheming to get ready for my swap and I'm still about three months out from even getting my truck in the shop to start in on it. Keep this up, and you'll have it back on the road before the end of next month! I wish I had that kind of time to put in mine!

I spend about an hour a day on it. I have the TV for the kids to hang out there with me and I get to spend quality time with them just before their bedtime... If I had the parts I needed on hand I'd be installed already....

I thought I would start with my first post replying to this thread. My preference is the T5, 5-speed which is an easy hydraulic change over for about $25 and some fabrication. I took master and slave cylinders from a Nissan B2200 truck.

Welcome to the forum. I initially wanted to go with a t5 but, I had a heck of a time finding a mechanical speedo S10 tailshaft. I want to keep my bench seat and a car style shifter position was going to be in the way.. besides I now have 3 of these 4 speed OD units.

What year is your truck? Please don't forget to fill out your profile..
