1999 Expedition AWD/4x4 problem

Hi,

I have been having a problem with my AWD/4wd. Right now the selector switch is on AWD, the 4x4 light is flashing, and it won't disengage from 4x4. This has happened before has gone away on it's own, and for no apparent reason reappears. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Did you try driving in reverse for 30-40 feet?

Samething in my 99 EB. After I confirmed it was not in fact in awd/4wd, I simply cut it off and restarted it. Cleared it out so I believe it was something in the computer. It would still do occasionally, but each time I would shut it off and restart. No issues otherwise

I did try driving it in reverse for half a block and it didn't disengage yet.

I have turned the car off numerous times, and still it has the flashing 4x4 light and it is in 4WD.

Thanks for the responses.

In that case, your shift motor likely went out.
