I'm off to see an '06 2x4 supercab longbed with 80,000 miles 100 miles away tomorrow after work. It looks real clean in the pics and the salesman says it's mint, we'll see!

I've got my heart set on a diesel, I'm one of those wacky guys that believes it's possible that there may not always be gas at the pumps. You know a natural disaster, war, oil rigs sinking, politics... whatever. Here in New Hampshire there is a 275 gallon tank of #2 fuel oil in just about every basement.

Thanks for talking me out of a money pit, I can afford a decent truck.

You made a wise decision by walking away, there are many Ford 6.0's for sale. If possible consider one still under factory warranty so you can decide later if you would like to extend the warranty.

What's the standard warranty, 5yr - 100k? And it's transferrable?

I looked for the bismic post on buying a used 6.0, no luck. Anyone got a link?

I bought an '06 supercab, 2WD, longbed last night. It's VERY clean, no crashes or scratches, it passes the bismic checklist with flying colors. It's real nice and was well cared for and it shows. One owner who traded it at the same dealer, I saw the original title.
I'm psyched! Picking it up tomorrow night 100 miles away, it was worth the trip.

Hello Cheezit,
I've been searching for all the ways oil can make it into the cooling system on a 6.0 PSD. You are the only one I've heard say something other than an oil cooler. What is a cavatated front cover? What causes it? What would be the proper repairer? My 6.0 has sludge in the coolant and I've taken the cooler out and pressurized both sides (one at a time) and cannot get it to leak.

Try testing it with pressurized kool aid or something like that and then flush the heck out of it. You are probably in a situation where it is leaking but you can't tell. Unless you happen to be heating the oil to 200-220 degrees and presurizing it to the same psi as the oil pump does. I am thinking especally the temp is hard to duplicate on a bench. Since oil thins out as it increases temp making it more likely to leak..... As far as what I cavitated front end is... not sure but intersted in finding out.

simple enugh pull the water pump and look. imo i would replace the cooler once it has had sludge threw it anyways. also you are better off vacuum testing the cooler then pressure testing imo anyway.

Will do. I found some pictures of damaged covers (cavitated). What causes this?

Thank you Cheezit for the info. I did not notice any water in the oil when I drained the oil pan but I will try to figure a way to vacuum test the oil cooler. I just hate putting things back together not being able to test or visually determine that a part was bad.

So I am sorry it has been awhile but I've had several projects going on simultaneously. I have been pressure testing the cooler with just air and listening for leaks. Even baked it in the oven at 225 for awhile and got nothing. The vehicle is back together now however (with an aircooled oil cooler) and everything seems fine so far. It just baffles me that I can't prove the OEM cooler was bad.
