Exclamation Oil Cooler Pics

Took some pics of a new oil cooler today. I thought someone else would find it as interesting as I did. But it doesn't take much to interest me.

This is just the heat exchanger minus the mounts. Notice the alignment pins and the coolant ports at each end. Both ends are identical so even a shade tree mechanic like me can't screw up getting the mounts on the right ends.

Close up of the finned cooling tubes and an alignment pin.

End view showing the oil passage tubes.

Here's an exploded diagram of the whole assembly.

That's it for now. Oil cooler R&R is tomorrow.

That's the block heater element.

An oil cooler write-up has been done but I will send you some pics if you want.

Thanks Guys.

I will post some pics of the old one.

Yes Roland. Oil cooler R&R today. When changing the water pump I noticed a sheen of something floating on the drained coolant. Then I checked the de-gas bottle and it had a film of oil on the sides. When I was at the dealership parts counter my friend BJ, the parts guy, told me he had an oil cooler he was wanting to get out of inventory. It was ordered and never picked up. He let me buy it for half list price as well as the gaskets and o-rings. In the last couple of weeks I have put in new rockers & pedestals, push rods, injector cups, injectors and water pump. Might as well put in a new oil cooler as well.

I need to order up the O-rings and gaskets for mine, as well. I noticed a little oil stain around the timing cover end housing. I want to nip it before it gets worse.
Good luck on the install. Hope all goes well.

Quite interesting. I have always wondered how that worked exactly. I imagined the tube as a heat exchanger where the oil entered from one end, ran through some tubes and came back out on the same end as it started. From the photos, it looks like it may work differently. Does the oil run through the tubes and exit out the other end directly into the side of the block?

You must have great spring weather up there in Payson because you have been a busy bee lately. Lots of great pics....
