Mileage Question

My Expedition is a regular length 2010 4x4. I only have about 300 miles on it. We drove it on a two lane road (no interstate) for about 80 miles and the meter was showing 14 mpg driving at 65-70. I was lust wondering what this SUV would average. The window sticker shows 12 city and 17 Hwy.

The 2006 is a different beast than the '07 and later.
My '07 with HD Tow (3.73 axle) can get 20mpg on the highway across Pennsylvania if I keep the speed down.
But I'd buy a Prius if I cared that much and they have the additional advantage of no speeding tickets, just claim the throttle stuck open. That lame excuse never seemed to work!

I am in a 2006 4x4 regular length. I get 11.5-12 in the city (85%) around 16-17 on the highway. I am not lightfooted, but I tried for 45 days and did not see any real improvements (did not unhook the battery for trans reset though, just a little justification test for myself). It gets about the same as my 2003 2wd supercrew got. Thanks, Mike.

2008 4x4 EL
I have seen 20 mpg on the highway, with only 2 adults and in good weather. This was for a 750 mile trip over the Appalachian Mtns.
This winter we made the same trip, 2 adults, 4 kids, 1 huge dog, car top carrier and in 4x4 auto most of the trip because of weather - 15.1 mpg.
In town we avg about 13-14 mpg.

Right now I see about 11 mpg with all city driving in an 07 Limited EL 4x4. I rarely make long distance trips. I also drive my truck hard though so I don't worry all that much about the mileage. I tend to top her off about every 3 weeks or so which isn't bad.
If I really need the MPG I just take the Honda Civic out of the cargo area and drive that....

07 EL XLT 4x4 w/ 18"s and 3.73s sees about 16 average and 19 to 20 on the highway. If you can get non ethanol gas it makes about 1 mpg difference on E-10 vs regular. This is also on 89 oct (that's all we use in our fleet trucks).
I'd expect that the 10's might get .05 mpg better then the 07 to 09 due to the electric fans.

Quit checking your mileage and go live a happy life.
My '08 BMW wagon gets 19 mpg and on the same commute my '07 EL gets about 13 mpg. So the EL gets 2/3, or about 66%, of the mileage the BMW gets.
My EL carries 8 people, the BMW 5. So the BMW carries 5/8, or about 62% of the people the EL carries. I don't fault the BMW for carrying fewer people. And I don't fault the EL for its healthy appetite.
Enjoy your vehicle and ignore the mileage.
