Stock Wheels

I would soon like to replace the wide tires and wheels that came with my 55 with some stock wheels (preferably 15 in). Any recommended sources? Thanks.

Wheel Vintiques

New, but they ain't cheap.
Might try to get used ones on e-bay or a swap meet.

Later model Ford truck and Dodge truck /van wheels are the same 5 x 5 1/2 . Looks like a trip to the local bone yard is near .

I recently picked up a full matching set from an 86 f-150, complete with the full wheel covers, for $40. Found them on Craigslist.

I just changed my "newer " rims with a set from Performance Plus.(Custom Tires, Custom Wheels, and Parts and Accessories for your Antique, Hot Rod, and Muscle Car from Hot Rod Hank’s) I went to chrome smoothie 15" from (hank's steel wheels)They carry 5-10" wide and they cost about $260 But I stayed with 8"wide so that might have affected the price.

I wanted the same thing on my '55 and these are the conclusions I came to.

1) You'll pay through the nose and/or search for a long time for 16" wheels, much less the tires to go on them. But, it looks like you want 15" anyways.

2) Wheel Vintiques (linked above) is the best price for new stock rims. BUT, buy them through summit racing since you can get powdercoat primer on them for less then what wheel vintiques actually sells them for. I know, its weird, but thats what I found (this was 3+ yrs ago though)

3) Newer Dodge rims will fit, and look perfectly stock as long as you're not going to run stock style hubcaps. The hubcap tabs are in the wrong location for the stock caps. I got one for my spare in order to save the cost of a 5th rim. I know there is a thread somewhere here with the exact years, but I got mine from a 1996 (i think) full size van.

I bought Wheel Vintiques and am very happy with them. You can see pictures of my truck with the wheel/tire combo in my galleries.

Back in the day ( 1969 ) when I purchased the 1ST-RIDE from my Grandfather for $50 I wanted to change from the 16 " to 15" wheels . I was told by a man who worked for my Dad that '49-'51 Lincoln or Mercury car rims were the same 5 x 5 1/2 . Sure enough I found a '50 Merc in a salvage yard and got the rims off from it for $5.00 ea. That was about 4 hrs. of labor ea. back then .
