I-beam pivot bushings

I'm in the process of my disc brake swap on my '66 F-100. I am using a '75 F-100 as a donor. I removed the I-beams from the '75 today and the pivot bushings are shot. I was able to knock out one of the bushings pretty easily, the other one took a little more effort. My question is in regard to the bushings. What came out was the inner metal sleeve surrounded by a piece of rubber. There appears to be an outer metal sleeve which is still in the I-beam. I need to know if that outer metal sleeve which is still in the I-beam needs to be removed or if that is part of the I-beam. I am thinking it was part of the bushing and should be removed but wanted to double check before I tear it up trying to get it out. Also, is there a particular good method to get the outer sleeve out? If I had the new bushings, the answer would be obvious I'm sure but I don't. Any info appreciated.

If you're going to use the urethane replacement bushings from Energy Suspension or one of the other suppliers, you'll need to leave the outer metal sleeve in place. The new bushing will slide in place with the special grease they supply.

Yes, remove it... it is part of the bushing. use a chisel, i installed new bushings myself with a big C clamp and blocks of wood.

note which way they are installed and how deep they are pushed into the beam.

Energy Suspension http://www.energysuspension.com/asse...on-catalog.pdf

Axle pivot bushing set #4.3119 for 65-79 Ford F100/F150. You have to leave the old outer metal sleeve in place, though. Clean it well and slide the new urethane bushing in with a new inner metal sleeve.
