7700 payload: Time for new tires, any opinions?
2002 F150 7700 4X4 7 Lug Wheels
I have 95,000 miles on the factory tires. They still have life left in them, but they are starting to show signs of cracking.
Unfortunately the Good Year Wrangler RT/S are no longer in production. My truck tire size is: LT 245/75R 16
What kind of tire would be compareable to the Wrangler RT/S tire? I still can not believe that I have 95,000 miles on these tires and have never had a flat.
I've been looking at Michelin LTX MS-2 tires. Anyone have any opinions or comments on new tires? I need to get all four tires replaced before May. Thanks.

I started a similar post at the end of Dec. and had a lot of good replies by the members. I would have chosen the Wrangler Silent Armours if they were on sale. IMHO it's better to have the load capacity (load D or E) than a smoother ride from passenger tires. But to each his own. I don't know what kind of Michelin LTX's one of the guys I worked with had, but he said they were horrible in snow but great for dry pavement.
He pulled a travel trailer (too bad he used a Suburban).

Good luck on your search for rubber.

When I went in to the local dealer to put tires on my 7700 they would not put on the set I had picked out because they were not E rated. Because of the payload rating for the truck, they did not want to be liable for putting the wrong rated tires for the truck. If you have a 7700, your most likely going to be stuck with an E rated tire.

I agree that the RTS tires from the factory are the longest tire I have ever seen... But I thought that they sucked for traction, no grip in snow and icy conditions or even wet. And the sidewalls were so soft on the p-rated version.
I went with a more aggressive tire in the Firestone Destination A/T. Not too crazy but it offers great grip in ice and snow and are not loud at all on the highway. I have about 60,000 km on them now and they are wearing very well. But going from a worn down gripless tire to one that offers grip with full tread expect to lose a MPG or two.
