Will shims add lift to my truck???

was hoping someone might know... i got a 6.5 inch lift currently.. im adding a 2" hanger shackle lift to the front that bolts right in no modifications to the steering or driveshaft.. i really really want another 1 " out of the front!! if i add say 12 degree shims will that give me 1" lift??? also does anyone think if i added a 1" add a leaf would i get away with no modifications.. i really dont wanna touch my steering or driveshaft!!!

Shims are used to correct the pinion and caster angles, not to add lift. So the short answer to your question is "no".

You might get better answers to your questions if you put them in another forum. This forum is for questions about the 99.5 to 2003 Ford diesel engines. If you ask a question about your Powerstroke, you will get answers, otherwise your question will probably just sit there.

Maybe you should add 3" shackles instead of the 2" that would be safe, maybe sell the 2" to help fund the 3".

Not being rude at all when I say this but your not adding 230 hp or anywhere close to that with that bully dog. Black smoke is unburned fuel.

yeah im not an expert when it comes to this stufff... i really wish i was because it would be a lot cheaper.. anyways the chip makes my truck fish tail up the road so its good enough! i havent actually bought the 2" shackles yet... they priced me 821 with a 2" shackle kit and labour... seems alright.. but they said the next size up was 4" so thats why i was getting the 2.... i already got the shocks and everything so all i need really is the shackle and hangers. so if i put in a 3" hanger/shackle kit would it bolt right in and not affect the steering.. maybe i might have to shims for the driveshaft but its the steering and other htings im worried about... if i had the $ id do it properly but im jsut looking for a quick cheap lift! not inot body lift!

Like to other poster noted Shims do not provide lift they correct poor suspension geometry.

If the 6.5" lift was done correctly and all the current geometry and drive shaft lengths are correct adding the 2" shackle shouldn't hurt anything but before you do that we should ask why do you need the 2" in the front?

Is this an old lift that has settled and you are trying to level it back out? If that is the case you might want to look at getting the springs re arched instead of bolting on a band-aid.

As for your other question about the 230HP? bullydog, if the truck is stock other than the lift and Chip......you could never get 230HP added with just a chip.

The black smoke is due to too much fuel and not enough air. To get 230 added HP you need injectors/turbo/and a good tuner just to start along with a good set of gauges to keep from melting the motor in to a pile of slag.

If you have excessive black smoke and no power probably the first thing you want to look for is a boost leak, check all the intercooler boots to make sure everything is nice and tight, also check the uppipes to make sure they have a good seal to the turbo. If all that checks out then you need to take a look at the turbo and the intake spider and make sure there are no leaks there and the turbo is in good shape.

To properly diagnose you really need a good set of gauges, at least a boost gauge and and EGT to see how everythings working.

Hope this helps and WELCOME TO FTE, this is a great bunch of folks here that will save you all kinds of money with all their knowledge while at the same time cause you to want to spend way more on cool stuff, FTE/PMS is kind of a double edged sword on the bank account.

I bet you can do the shackles your self and save some money, I know I've seen some 3" on sites before.

hey i really apreciate your knowledge... i have all the gauges and its the bullydog tripple dog tuner.. i got the larger turbo.. the trucks done! i can fishtail up the road in it haha but its jsut all the black smoke... lie kthe guy behind me cant see untill it clears.... but as far as lifting my front end.. yeah i figure it has settled an inch... i wanna lift the front end because i lie kthe look of having the front a little higher! i jsut dont have the $ to buy new springs nd start playing around with all the mods so i was looking for a cheaper way to do this without modifying anything too much.. apparently the 2" hanger shackle kit procomp makes bolts right in without touching the steering or the drive shaft.. may bhave to put in a shim to correct the angle... but any ideas how i can get that extra inch in the front.. apparently they say the next hanger lift size is 4" and thats too much! so say i did rearc my front springs by an inch.. do you think id get away with it and not have to touch my steering or drive shaft.. ??? thanks again for your great info!!!
