To flatten the trucks or not to flatten that is the question. The key here in my opinion is to keep history as long as we can. preserve what we have. If these trucks / cars could talk, imagine the stories they can tell.

Yup, that's all Photoshop. Messy blotch of tree behind the cab cutting off the crane, and the rear window has a messy version of what's in the front window... (where's waldo?). I do agree though, it that was real it'd be a killer rig.
As far as the original post, please don't let that beautiful thing go for scrap. If it drove there a year ago, someone, somewhere on FTE or the rest of the interweb might (hopefully) drive it out of there. Even those flared out commercial truck fenders are worth some dough if you are willing to sell them online. I just turned down selling my 63 since the guy just wanted it for parts on his 64 monster truck. Not enough good American steel left nowadays, just couldn't do it to the rusty ol' girl...
It would be cool and leave it a wrecker like it is and run the new ford dually low profile rims and tires , paint and chrome with a blown 460 stickin out of the hood . Lowered with a rake stance of course . Have Chip Foose draw a rendering and build that . LOL.
Sorry I didn't see this thread when it first ran. The wheels on these trucks aren't just split rims, they are the killer splits that are today called "widow makers". The technical term for them is Firestone RH-5°. No reputable shop will touch them anymore for insurance and lawyer reasons. The above comment by sdg00800 is correct. Many military trucks used the 6 lug x 8.75" pattern in a lock ring type mount which might be a good replacement option if the project truck has "stud piloted" hubs. The problem with many of these mid '60s F-600s is that they were "hub piloted", meaning that the wheel centered itself on the hub with the lugs performing no locating function.
If the project truck is "stud piloted", Accuride wheels in the correct tubeless 22.5" x 6.75" size can be bought new today in this bolt pattern. Below is the link to the Accuride on-line catalog. Accuride part #28157. A 22.5" wheel/tire is the correct replacement for a tube type 20" multi-part combo.
If you have hub piloted wheels, I know of no replacement wheels that will work. Guys have gone to the trouble to convert their trucks from "hub piloted" to "stud piloted". Here's some old threads on the subject. Stu

WELL I'M GETTING KINDA THERE. 1961 F600 CAB F100 STEP SIDE BOX AND 1991 E250 CHASSY WITH REAR DUALLY CONVERSION RIDING ON 285/75 R16'S... WITH A BIG SIX 300 DUAL CARB DUAL PIPE SET UP AND A COMP CAM 268H.. AND A 5 SPD. MANUAL WITH O.D. TRANS.
STILL IN WORK AND PICTURES ARE BEING COLLECTED BUT NOT ORGANIZED YET. BUT YOU CAN SEE THE FRAME BEING NARROWED IN THE REAR BY 5" EACH SIDE FOR DUALLYS AT THIS POINT AS THE PARTS ARE ROLLING IN. I AM ABOUT 2 MONTHS INTO IT NOW AND WORK MOSTLY BY MYSELF SO IT MAY TAKE A FEW MONTHS OR SO TO SEE ANY REAL PROGRESS, THIS IS A COMLLETE CUSTOM JOB ENGENEERED AND THOUGHT OUT BY ME AND SOME GOOD FRIENDS WITH VALUEABLE INPUT CUZ 2 HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE.

Can anyone help me out on finding replacement wheels for these old style 5 spokes? Even a more modern style steel with a more common bolt pattern. I'm guessing I might need to make a hub change as well? I'm a newbie to this style truck so just don't have the knowledge yet. Thanks, Mark
