Scan Gauge Options Help

Okay, So it will help people in the future, we can collaborate a little on this and discuss what these different options do, and if they work or not.
I've read a few mixed results on a few of the options such as the IAT, which works for me, but I think I read others don't have it work.

Programming your Scan Gauge, terminator or interceptor, is fairly easy.

On the menu, choose setup, and platform 2.
Select exit to move on to the setup screen.

Platform 1 is for other style Ford Vehicles.

On the setup screen you can select which sensors you want to be able to monitor on the scan screen, here you put an Asterisk by the ones you wish to monitor.

The objective of this thread is to help you choose what scan options will work best for you and what you want to do.

I know you might think that you can simply just select all of them and then just choose, but you'll be wasting time cycling though features that don't even work, or features that or model of truck cannot monitor.

So, lets get started.

Ford Powerstroke Supported Parameters (PID’S)
Platform 2 parameters:

1. INTAKE AIR 2- Intake Air Temperature taken at the throttle body inlet
2. COOLANT TEMP 2- Engine Coolant Temperature
3. RPM 2- engine Revolutions Per Minute
4. MANIFOLD PSI 1- Manifold Air Pressure (psia) for voltage based MAP sensors (mid 1990’s trucks).
5. Manifold PSI 2 – Manifold Air Pressure (psia) for frequency based MAP sensors
6. BOOST 1 – Boost Pressure in psig for voltage based MAP
7. BOOST 2 – Boost Pressure in psig for frequency based MAP
8. MILES PER HOUR 2- Miles Per Hour
9. TRANS TEMP 1- Transmission Temperature for 1998 and newer trucks
10. TRANS TEMP 2 – Trans temp derived from the trans temp sensor voltage for 1997 and older trucks.
11. TRANS VOLTS – Transmission temperature sensor raw voltage.
11. RUN TIME MINS- engine run time since last engine start. Can be used as a trip timer.
12. BATTERY VOLTAGE- Alternator/battery output voltage
13. PULSE WIDTH- injector pulse width in msec.
14. ENGINE OIL TEMP
15. EX. BACK PRESS – Exhaust back pressure
16. ICP DC – Injector Control Pressure Duty Cycle
17. ICP – Injector Control Pressure
18. INJ. TIMING – Injector Timing Deg BTDC
19. CURRENT GEAR – Current Transmission Gear

Why it lists 2 11's beats me, Email Interceptor gauges about it.

Anyways, this is the 20 options that the book lists.

I'd like to note that you can see many of the options on here 2 times. Some of the options only work in one mode.

This is where I need others help for this to be possible and full of reliable information.
I have a 94. The only other person I know with this gauge I talk to is Travis, who has an early truck like mine. We also both have stick shifts.

So if you have a Later model truck, make sure you post which options are working for you so we can try and establish if there is a difference in years or not.

My study on this is incomplete. Its fairly hard for me to use my scan gauge while its stuffed into the ashtray while driving down the road.

So let me list a few things that I do know, and hopefully others can fill in the rest.

IAT works for me. It does change, it just has a slower polling rate than some of the other sensors.
If you are like me any, you changed the gauges polling rate as well to slower so the numbers are not constantly jumping around and non readable, such as RPM's.

The trans temps, I have no clue on, I think thats automatic stuff.

RPM works for me, MPH 2 works as well.

BOOST and MAP KPA do not work, but BOOST 2 and MAP KPA 2 do work.

Boost is fairly accurate reading from the MAP sensor.
MAP KPA gives you a reading based on other info. I almost want to say its reading atmospheric pressure then adding the boost on top.
Mine reads 14.something on idle, and the number increases with the boost gauge accurately.

Gear for my stick shift shows 1 no matter what. So, no neutral sensor. I don't recall it showing reverse.

Oil temp is the funny one.
oil temp 94+ will give you some obscure number.
Just use the oil temp 96, which gives you a correct reading. even though my truck is a 94, it makes no sense to me either.

I don't quite understand the INJ scans, but I've been using INJ PW and it works.

If somebody with some more info could explain the INJ and the ICP scans and what they are scanning, that could be helpful for others here.

BATT works as well. And wow do the glow plugs suck some juice!

It is the under hood air filter sensor. It's pooling fast but is just slow responding to changes to temps, as it should.

Yes, I changed the pooling rate from 2 (default) on mine to 4. That helped a lot.

The trans temps, I have no clue on, I think thats automatic stuff.

Yes, autos only, fluid temp.

RPM works for me, MPH 2 works as well.

Yes.

BOOST and MAP KPA do not work, but BOOST 2 and MAP KPA 2 do work.

Correct, any duplicate items such as BOOST or BOOST 2 always select the #2 item. We are an after thought on 94.5 - 97.

Boost is fairly accurate reading from the MAP sensor.

Your are correct, don't use that function, unless you want to..

Gear for my stick shift shows 1 no matter what. So, no neutral sensor. I don't recall it showing reverse.

It's for autos only, in drive i show #4.

OBDII thing, different years changed memory locations in the PCM. Just use what works.

I don't quite understand the INJ scans, but I've been using INJ PW and it works.

PW is how long in milliseconds (1/1000) of a second the injector fires.

If somebody with some more info could explain the INJ and the ICP scans and what they are scanning, that could be helpful for others here.

Haven't used mine enough to really know anything about it. I need to download the manual or something.

Plan on using it more in the future. I haven't really done any setting on it other than putting it on oil temp, ICP DC%, ICP psi, and battery. On the early 95 I've played with it on so far, the 1st oil temp reads around 200* to 210* at normal operation and driving down the road. This seems normal to me. The other oil temp option reads about 80 to 100* higher than that.

Subscribing to see what others think.

Red face

Subscribed. I just received my scan gauge in my door (can you imagine that), so I havent open the box. But Im going to work with it and post my observations and questions.

BTW, IIRC Hussler has another thread like this.

Come on now Jose. This is the official thread.

I remember hustlers. I think he was just asking a question about it though.

I just did the invert and slow down the data rate, wow, that really helps me see it.

I have not tried the display invert yet, thanks I'll try that.
Did scan for codes and got P1111, all OK. Warm fuzzy feeling.
On mine EOT is always about 10* to 15* lower than IAT on cold start up.
Programmed warning lights to come on if battery voltage is below 12.3 volts. Works as GPR on time indicator.
