Coyote costs $7500

According to USA Today in an article on the 2011 mustang the coyote will cost $7500 over the base V6.

Heck if I have to pay that much, just as well to go ahead and develop the small diesel for the F150

That is probably not engine only. More than likely includes an upgraded trim package among other things.

It will surely be a better suspension there too.

That is not the cost of the engine. That is the difference from a base Mustang to a GT Mustang that includes the 5.0 and a whole lot of other upgrades.

That's good, otherwise the engine would be a flop if it cost that much.

The way it sounds the new Mustang with the V6 will be no slouch either. Has a very decent amount of power and good fuel economy. A supercharger or a turbo on that V6 should make that Mustang a rocket.

The 2011 V6 mustangs run high 13's and 5.9 0-60 right out of the showroom. That's quicker than quite a few "musclecars" from the pre smog era. Not bad for a "rental" car!

As a current GT owner, that V-6 is tempting. Same horsepowere and MUCH better gas mileage. For a commuter, that would be idea. Once the hoopla has ended, you should be able to get a very well equipped V-6 for around $25-27K. So far, 2011 models I've seen on lots are carrying a premium over sticker (about $5K). I have not seen a 2011 GT on a lot yet.

From what I've read, you can build a V-6 with most of the handling upgrades and exterior options of the GT, with Leather and NAV for around $28-30K MSRP. And, it is stated that the trannys are the same. So, the engine is running around $5-7K. I still want one though!

Very misleading, but I would expect nothing less from any media source, a 2011 Mustang GT is only going to be roughly $1450 more than a 2010 GT. Although the V6 will have the hp numbers that the 2010 GT's have I doubt they will run in the high 13's like the GT's do they don't have the torque that the V8's have.

I think an extra $1500 for a 400+hp engine and 6 speed tranny are a steal over the previous years Mustangs.

The V6 mustang was tested at 13.9 in the quarter, and 5.9 sec. 0-60. They are lighter than the GT's too.

Actually, Motor Trend reported 1/4 miles time of 13.7 and 0-60 in 5.2 for the V-6. Very similar to the existing GT. The $7,500 mentioned here is the premium over the new V-6, not the 2010 GT. The old V-6 wasn't comparable, so the premium is justified. Maybe not with the new V-6. The new V-6 is comparable to the 2010 GT and costs less, sticker for sticker.

Better yet. I haven't seen motor trends test yet. The new GT is is faster than the SS Camaro, SRT 8 Challenger, and almost as fast as the GT500. With a few mods, it should run neck & neck with the GT500. Pretty impressive what Ford has done with these engines (V6 & V8).

So they just about have the base mustang running times you used to need a Cobra for.
Thats awsome! Can't wait to see the times on the 5.0 6 speed.

I think the numberr in the MT article for the GT was 0-60 in 4.3. Impressive.

I heard on the Car and Driver issue that had the 5.0 on it, that Ford tried to design the new GT as close as possible to the "Track Package GT" of 2010. So it's probably going to be worth it .
