I just replaced mine tonight. Got the support from O' Reilly's it was a Federal Mogul bearing for about $35 bucks. Fixed the shudder I had at about 45 when it shifted into OD. I thought the converter was going out.

The rubber was shot and its smooth as glass now. Ran it up to 70 with no shakes.

 

so im gonna replace my carrier bearing on a 99 f350 cc long bed the one they gave me is E4TZ-4800-Aand dosent look like the F81Z-4800-FA is there a difference

 

ford dealer sold me p/n e4tz-4800-a, it looked slightly different but worked fine, as in my signature its a short box.

I have a 2000 f350 Ext. Cab longbox. I'm in the process of replacing the support bearing. I got the old one off no problem. I'm having issues getting the new one on. I checked the sizes and they are both the same 1.57" i.d. bearings. The new bearing will not slide on easily or even with a few decent taps from a mallet. Any suggestions?

Do we need Air tools for this(I mean, must-have versus good-to-have))? Because I do not have any Air tools or compressor!

Glad I found this thread. I've already greased the slip yolk...without positive results. I also have the vibration upon take-off, either from a dig or a very slow roll. The part number the local dealer gave me based on my vin is F81Z-4800-EA. $101.98 + tax, and that's the whole assembly with the bracket. They also quoted me $48 and change for the shim kit listed above in the TSB, part # EOTZ-4A209A.

Dude...dont do that to yourself. Its bad for your karmic juju. Dealer prices bad bad bad (unless you have a wholesale account).

 

I ended-up getting an assembly at Autozone with a Timken bearing for $24. Problem solved.

For future reference, a two-armed gear puller was perfect for pulling the yolk and then the bearing.

It sure is nice when I can identify a problem and get it fixed within a day. If only it could happen more often.

 

I'm about to do this on my 04 superduty. also gonna do the 3 u joints while it's out. your description has me more confident about doing it at home instead of on base. thanks man
