223 six freeze plug

Taking care of the little things on my 1960 F100, I changed the freeze plugs on the drivers side of the engine block. 2 were leaking, one was ready to. Now I have to get to the ones on the cylinder head. The one at the rear is seeping, so I want to do it next. Any ideas other than pulling the head? I can barely get my hand in there between the head and the firewall.

myself i would hate to take the head of a good engine.once in awile it will cause them to start burning oil.i know you dont want to hear this but i would unhook the engine and pull it ahead first.maybe you will figure out something else.

Plan on replacing ALL the freeze plugs and if that means pulling the engine to do so then I would. If some are leaking the others will follow shortly. Some jobs you don't want to do twice...

Yep, replacing all, as even the non leakers are so thin you can push a screwdriver through them.

I do not have a picture, but it is a tight area behind the head. I can get a prybar in there to pull the old one, but getting a new one installed will be the problem.

I think if you pull the trans, bell housing, and the trans floor cover, then with a jack under the engine lower the engine down and I THINK the freeze plug will be in the opening for the trans floor cover.

But really it would be easier to pull the engine, clean, paint, next thing it will be a body off restoration..........
