Rear wobble

Hi everyone,

Thanks for having me.

I have a 2000 Expedition EB. I started experiencing rear wobble one day, and this went on for maybe a week. Until one day I took another look at the rear and saw that both rear tires had belts fraying through the side of the tire. The tires were on their last leg tried to get as many miles as possible out of them.
So I bought new ones figuring this was the problem. until the day after I could feel a slight wobble from the rear. This usually happens when first taking off straight line, but more noticeable coming out of left hand turns, and feels like the wobble is coming from the passengers side and lasts until I hit a certain speed it seems. Yesterday, I took a sharp left from a stop, and I heard the rear clunk clunk clunk. Then coming out of the turn it did the wobble thing. Right now this all SEEMS to be intermittent as far as noticing it.

Anyone have any ideas I surely would appreciate them!

Kelly

One of the rims could be bent. Swap the front and rear tire on one side only and see if there's a difference. If nothing changes swap them back and then swap the front and rear on the other side. Once again check for any difference in drivability.

If the control arms check ok, you may have a CV going out, they can bind and cause wobble feel. Wheel bearings are another issue. Raise the rear off the ground and place stands, then run it up while watching, you may even have u-joint problems.
