I'm in the middle of an EGR Cooler delete along with new head gaskets and head studs because of a EGR Cooler leak. I was hoping none of the coolant made it into the cylinders but unfortunately there was coolant in #1 cylinder. I hadn't experienced any hydro locking symptoms before I tore it down...
Does anyone have experience with this? What are the chances of the cylinder being ok? What should I look for as far as damage to the cylinder etc when I get the head off?
Aside from anything obvious, measure your piston to deck height and compare it to another cylinder or two just to make sure you dont have a shortened rod......But being that you said you didnt have hydro lock issues I doubt you will have any problems.
