Curiosity solved

I am new to this forum but not to Ford trucks. Had many over the years and the previous one was a 1999 F-150 XLT with the 4.6L. New P/U is a 2010 F-150, candy red metallic, with the 4.6 3 valve motor.
Wondered about performance, so last night, went to the local drag strip to see how much difference there was between the old truck and the new one.

Made 3 passes down the quarter mile and was pleasantly surprised with the results. All the runs were in the 15.5 second range at 90 mph.

The 1999 had run in the 16.8 at 80 mph on a previous visit.

Also drove my daughter's 2009 F-150, 4x4, 5.4L down the track. Results were less than expected. Best time was 15.8 at 89 mph.

I am happy with the results, as everything under the hood is stock. No changes have been made, so far.

I'll be around here from time to time, just to throw in my $.02.

Surprised to hear the 4.6 edged out the 5.4L. Perhaps the weight of the 4x4 and Tcase rob some power.

The Mustang motor has some giddy-up to it. Ford says 292 hp at the flywheel.

Maybe the difference between 4.6 and 5.4 was user error?

Drove both vehicles the same way. Left foot on brake, right foot on gas, brought up rpm's when the tree lit and let off brake on last yellow light. Traction control worked well. Tires didn't spin enough to smoke them. Hammer down thru the trap.

We also have no clue what each truck has for axle ratios either. But the cool thing about this is that the 4.6L 3V is no slouch. It's clearly very peppy and we know it's great on gas as it was the motor used in the SFE trucks last year.

I'm sure the extra weight of the 4x4 and power loss thru the transfer-case is the cause for the 5.4L 4x4 to be slower. Doesn't surprise me one bit.

im not very surprised, after owning both motors in same body style truck i could say that its true

but if that drag strip was a hill at a 6% grade the 5.4 would edge out a 4.6 with no problem

thats the power differents i notice for a 5.4 with 3.73 to a 4.6 with 3.73 both 4x4
