I don't know how we can update a 2010. My last truck used a CD for its data base. The new truck's navigation doesn't.

It says you have to go to your dealer to get it. According to the Edge forums the update through your dealer is $795

Complete nonsense. The update is about $180, which is still overpriced. Wait for a bit and the DVD will be on Ebay.

the '09-'10 don't use a dvd they need to be updated through the dealer.
From navteq

Oh Really? How do you think the hard drive gets updated? It gets updated via a DVD, just like most software.

NAVTEQ sells the DVD to dealerships and the dealerships charge YOU to upgrade your NAV unit. These DVDs eventually make their way to Ebay and other sites.

Updated just like your hand held GPS download updates and install through USB using special update software. My '08 system would open to install a dvd and I could by them form Navteq directly, my ' 09 does not there is no dvd in the unit. I will call my dealer today and ask.

Ok finally got a tech on the phone, the Service writers don't know anything, The map updates are on 2 dvd's like Ymark mentioned, but it is available through the dealer only for $800, at least at my local dealer some maybe different, because it takes 3 hours to install and you need to leave your engine running for the full 3 hours. Each disk is locked to that vehicle to prevent ebay sales, When the disks are installed they go online to navteq and register the disks to that vehicle sync code. Then all updates are installed to the HDD. He doesn't recomend the update as the maps really have not changed they added some POI's but are still missing information and street updates so the voice navigation won't work in some areas. The newer 2010 model SYNC 3.0 is supposedly updated automatically over the air as your turn by turn is downloaded to your phones. Those of us that have the earlier Sync 1.0 or 2.0 on hdd with in dash map basically don't get any map updates because these units are one off units.
I guess I'll go back to my garmin NUVI I can get 4 updates a year with it all for around $150 lifetime(of the unit)

If your dealer told you this, I'd keep him away from my Sync system.

Part of the problem (IMHO) is Ford/Navteq are in a urination contest over the map updates (commercial issues).

I intend on waiting until I see a reasonable cost ($200) for a map data update. If that doesn't happen soon, someone will figure out a hack for the system and they will be on eBay for $50.

In the meantime, I've sent letters to my dealer and Ford Customer Service complaining about both the quality of the maps and the price for the update. I suggest you do the same.
