stupid stuff you can fix for free

broken door handles.
If you ever break one then while you have the inside panel off take the time to clean the part the handle bolts down to. hose it off real good with brake clean. Don't use carb cleaner unless you want to repaint the door. The handle mechanics is the usual culprit when the door handle doesn't want to move. A lot of people don't clean it well enough and suspect the cable. It's almost never the cable. You just have to thoroughly clean the handle and oil it with light oil. Personally I use breakfree clp on it since I have barrels full of the stuff.

I just fixed mine yesterday. I had to replace the mechanism the handle bolts to. The pins and holes were worn a LOT and allowed way too much play. Also, the metal on the door itself was fatigued and cracked around the bolt hole. I put a 2" piece of 3/16 steel flatbar behind it (on the inside of the door itself). I also lubed everything and now it works great.
I fixed mine recently also. I used a metal handle of an 80's truck, bolted right on.
