Help! Little metal clips (junk) for door weatherstrip

I was in the process (before winter) of replacing all the weatherstrip on both doors of my 49 F-6 fire truck. I am having major difficulties with installing the weatherstrip that goes on both sides of the door window glass. They are held on by little metal clips that must fit in the holes in the door. I have bent several and gave up. Anyone know a better way to do it? or better clips? Much appreciated! Roger

If the new clips you are using are like the ones I got with my anti-rattle kit, they only have a single slot cut in the **** part that goes into the hole in the door- let me refraise that- that is suppose to fit in the hole. I took a die grinder and thin cut off wheel and cut a second slot in the **** at 90* to the manufactured one, now the **** has an X slot like the oringinals, and will press into the hole. I bent the lower retaining tab first, squeeze the **** togeather with pliers, then installed- then slid the antirattle strips down to the bent over tabs, secured by bending over the top tabs last. Was a total PITA to get done. Good luck- and try to keep patient while doing it.

Thanks Kevin. The pieces have an x, they just dont expand enough to stay in the hole. If I put them in first and expand them, then I cant hardly bend the clip that the weatherstrip sits in. The clips just dont seem very strong. Did you put the clips in first, then put the weatherstrip into the clips and squeezed together? Thanks!

I pre-bent the lower tab- installed in the door- then pushed the antirattle strips down into the prebent lower tab. Then with a small punch and hamer bent down the top tab to retain the strip.

I feel your pain, brothers... The clips furnished with all of these nowadays are a sorry piece of work. The originals had 3 cuts, and were made of actual tempered steel, not melted-down tuna cans. Even rusty old originals snap in and grab solidly, while the new ones just bend going thru the hole, and don't snap back out.
